Principal Message:

Parents,

Having you been hoping for more communication from the school about your student’s grades and classes?  With the start of the new year, I wanted to send out a refresher on how to check on your child’s grades throughout the year. While the final grades should always be posted in Skyward, teachers also use a secondary management system called Canvas. Many teachers are using Canvas so parents should know how to receive information from both. Please see below for resources on these systems.

I want to know how to check on my student’s grades, attendance and other helpful information:

http://parentconnections.canyonsdistrict.org/skyward-family-access.html

Now that I have logged into my Skyward account I want to receive updates about attendance, grades and progress reports:

I want to check my student’s grades on Canvas along with assignment progress, teacher announcements, and following the courses my student is taking:

December Fundraiser Report:

Thank you so much for your support of our December fundraiser, the Hillcrest Iditarod! Throughout the month of December, our student body, teachers, and community participated in a myriad of activities such as Hillcrest Idol, game nights, our service assembly, and many more. With your help, we raised $18,985 to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to search for a cure for the disease and help provide effective treatment. We are so pleased to do our part to alleviate the suffering of so many people who are affected by this disease, including some right here at Hillcrest, and we could not have done it without you!

Yearbook prices are going up:

Students, this is your last chance to purchase yearbooks for $50.00.  The price will increase to $55.00 effective January 16, 2019.  If you would like to pay it on Skyward, call the Main Office and ask to have it added to your Skyward account.  Otherwise, you can pay with cash or check in the Main Office during office hours.

Youth Protection Seminar:

A Youth Protection Seminar will be held on Thursday, January 10th 2019 at 7:00 p.m. This is a free parent seminar with information on substance abuse, bullying, mental health, and internet safety from professionals in the field of mental health. Specific topics include: mental health issues/suicide warnings, including prevention tips, how to get help and access to community resources; substance abuse prevention and intervention tips; bullying, what it is as well as prevention and intervention help; internet safety tips and resource materials. Community organizations such as HOPE Squad, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, SafeUT representatives from the University of Utah, Hopeful Beginnings, and other community and school resources will all be in attendance. We look forward to seeing you there!

Hillcrest High School Course Requests:

It’s that time of year AGAIN – Class selection for the 2019-20 school year at Hillcrest High School

Hillcrest High School Counselors are visiting English classes next month, February 6th-12th, to discuss the registration process for 2019-20 course requests.  A few items that we would like to make parents aware of are as follows:

  • Students will be going online and entering their course requests through Skyward during the classroom presentation
  • Following their classroom presentation, the student can then review the course selection with their parents and adjust as needed during the arena open window
  • The arena open window for students to request their courses will be February 5th – 15th
  • Students will NOT turn in their registration card, it has been given to them as a guide for what classes to register for
  • There is an additional registration card for students in 11th/12th grade who are involved with the IB program
  • Any student who does not request classes prior to February 15th will then have classes added by their counselor which will not be changed per student request
